why nobody cares about your photography
Seriously, nobody cares. It’s so easy to photograph today, and use pre-set filters to make these “pseudo-artistic” photographs. Click and tap and you’re done.
Part of what makes art, art is that it’s hard to create. In the age of amazing mobile phone cameras with ai processing that creation process just becomes way too easy. People need to work for their art.
However, there is a place for cheap fast nicely processed images. Just like there’s a place for McDonald’s french fries. A term I like to use is “memory photography”.
Memory photography is when you’re out with friends sharing fries, and that moment is captured. Selfies, groupshots, social media posts… but is that art?
And back to why nobody cares… if you don’t put the effort into your work it shows. Whether it’s noticed by the eye, or the subconscious it’ll show.
Clearly, I’m no Henri Cartier-Bresson. And have no illusions of being so. So, clearly nobody really cares about my work, except probably a small handful of people, and myself.
We get the the crux of the matter. Since you probably have an idea by now that most people really don’t care about your photography… you should be making art for only yourself.
Make what you love. Do it for yourself. Work hard on your art… and people will notice and start to care.
